Who Is McCabe Millon in College Lacrosse?
McCabe Millon plays men’s NCAA Division I lacrosse for the Virginia Cavaliers. He joined the university for the 2023–24 season after attending McDonogh School in Maryland and was listed as a junior during the 2026 campaign.
Wearing jersey number 9, he plays in attack, contributing through both goals and assists. His first college season immediately established him among Virginia’s leading offensive players, while his later performances earned conference and national recognition.
Before entering college, Inside Lacrosse and the National Lacrosse Federation each placed him at the top of their 2023 national recruiting rankings. His subsequent achievements included a Virginia freshman scoring record, a major NCAA tournament performance, and an ACC Championship victory.
How His McDonogh Success Led to a Change from Duke to Virginia
Millon attended McDonogh School, where he developed into one of the country’s most highly regarded high school lacrosse players.
He helped McDonogh win consecutive Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championships in 2022 and 2023. He also received three MIAA all-conference selections and served as a team captain during the 2023 season.
At the 2023 National Senior All-American Game, Millon added another individual honour when he received the MVP award. By the end of his high school career, he had established a recruiting profile that attracted attention from major college programmes.
His recruitment involved an important change of destination.
On 4 October 2021, Millon verbally committed to Duke University. However, he changed his college choice to Virginia in 2022 and subsequently joined the Cavaliers.
In his official Virginia player profile, Millon explained that the university appealed to him for several reasons. He valued the opportunity to compete at a high level while pursuing challenging academics, and he was attracted to the campus environment and relationships within the lacrosse programme.
Competitive lacrosse had been part of Millon’s upbringing long before he began attracting national recruiting attention. His father, Mark Millon, was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2009, while his mother, Erin Brown Millon, received the same recognition in 2014.
Despite that background, Millon told USA Lacrosse in a March 2022 interview that his parents had not pressured him to play. He described developing his own interest in lacrosse and wanting his eventual achievements to mean more than his status as a highly ranked recruit.
His Record-Setting Freshman Season and NCAA Quarterfinal Performance
Millon entered the 2024 college season with considerable expectations following his high school achievements.
He responded by scoring 41 goals and recording 25 assists across 18 games, finishing his freshman campaign with 66 points.
His 41 goals established a University of Virginia freshman record. In 2024, Millon topped the Division I freshman rankings in both goals scored and total points.
One of his most significant performances came during the NCAA quarterfinal against Johns Hopkins on 19 May 2024.
Virginia faced Johns Hopkins in a closely contested elimination game that eventually required double overtime. Millon contributed three goals and three assists, helping the Cavaliers secure an 11–10 victory and advance to the national semifinals.
The occasion carried personal significance because the match took place near his Maryland hometown.
Speaking with USA Lacrosse in an interview published on 24 May 2024, Millon connected the experience with the major lacrosse games he had imagined playing while growing up. Competing at that level, close to home, represented an opportunity he had worked towards during his earlier years.
His adjustment to college lacrosse also benefited from experienced teammates.
In discussing his first year at Virginia, Millon credited experienced attackers Connor Shellenberger and Payton Cormier with helping him adjust to college competition.
His first season ended with a school scoring record, 66 points and an appearance in the NCAA national semifinals.
McCabe Millon’s Changing Offensive Numbers Across Three Seasons
Millon’s second season brought a different balance to his offensive production.
In 2025, he played all 14 Virginia games, contributing 23 goals and 27 assists for 50 points. His 27 assists were Virginia’s highest individual total in 2025, and his 50 points placed him just behind the team’s leading scorer.
Although his goal total was lower than during his freshman campaign, his assists increased from 25 to 27 despite playing four fewer games.
The development continued in 2026.
Across 17 appearances, including 16 starts, he registered 31 goals and a career-high 46 assists. His 77 points represented his highest season total through his junior year.
He averaged 2.71 assists and 4.53 points per game. According to Virginia’s official season record, his assists-per-game average ranked fifth nationally in NCAA Division I.
His offensive statistics across the three completed seasons were:
| Season | Games | Goals | Assists | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 18 | 41 | 25 | 66 |
| 2025 | 14 | 23 | 27 | 50 |
| 2026 | 17 | 31 | 46 | 77 |
| Total | 49 | 95 | 98 | 193 |
The figures show how his contribution changed. While his freshman season was distinguished by goal scoring, his 2026 campaign included substantially more assists and his highest overall points total.
Millon has also discussed the technical work behind his playing development.
In a May 2024 USA Lacrosse interview, he credited his father with teaching him important aspects of attacking play, including footwork, movement and stick handling.
His earlier development involved additional physical conditioning and film study. USA Lacrosse’s 2022 reporting described how he used time recovering from a high school hand injury to study the game more closely.
Millon also discussed changes to his pre-game approach. Earlier in his high school career, he would isolate himself with headphones before matches. Speaking to USA Lacrosse in 2022, Millon described finding greater enjoyment in matches after moving away from his earlier habit of shutting out distractions before playing.
Those experiences formed part of his development before and during his transition to college. At Virginia, he combined that technical background with the experience gained from playing alongside senior teammates and competing in major NCAA games.
McCabe Millon’s Role in Virginia’s 2026 ACC Championship
Millon began February 2026 with a nine-point display against Colgate, setting the stage for further individual recognition and Virginia’s conference title run.
On 8 February, Millon recorded four goals and five assists against Colgate, producing a career-high nine points.
On 10 February, the Tewaaraton Foundation included Millon among 50 men’s players under consideration for its annual national college lacrosse award.
His conference performances also earned formal recognition.
On 28 April 2026, the ACC named Millon to its men’s lacrosse All-ACC Team. The conference’s announcement included four Cavaliers, with Millon recognised for his attacking performances.
The Cavaliers then reached the ACC Championship final against North Carolina on 3 May 2026.
Virginia secured the ACC tournament championship with a 16–6 win over North Carolina, during which Millon scored four times and assisted on two other goals.
The tournament’s top individual award went to Virginia goalkeeper Jake Marek.
For Millon, the championship added a major team achievement to a college record that already included individual scoring milestones and NCAA tournament experience.
His six-point performance in the final earned him ACC All-Tournament Team recognition.
His 2026 All-American Honours and Academic Recognition
Millon’s 2026 season brought recognition from three major lacrosse organisations.
USA Lacrosse’s postseason selections, announced by Virginia on 7 May, placed Millon on the organisation’s second All-America team.
Two days later, on 9 May, Inside Lacrosse named him a First Team All-American, placing him among the publication’s leading collegiate players at his position.
A further distinction followed on 21 May, when USILA selected him for its Division I Second All-America Team.
The three organisations did not give Millon identical honours: Inside Lacrosse placed him on its first team, while USA Lacrosse and USILA chose him for their second teams.
Another ACC attackman, Joey Spallina, also earned national recognition in 2026 after establishing Syracuse career records for points and assists.
These national selections followed his February Tewaaraton Award Watch List appearance and April All-ACC selection.
His university record also includes recognition for academic performance alongside his contributions in attack.
The university records him as a student in its College of Arts and Sciences. He received All-ACC Academic Team honours in 2024 and 2025 and was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2024, 2025 and 2026.
His academic distinctions also included 2026 CSC Academic All-District recognition.
By the end of the 2026 season, Millon had earned recognition for both his scoring and playmaking while contributing to Virginia’s ACC Championship victory.
