AJ Shabeel is widely associated with Beta Squad, but his career as a creator didn’t begin with the group. By the time Studio71 announced Beta Squad in February 2019, he already had a YouTube channel and roughly 119,000 subscribers.
His path into online content was also closely connected to Chunkz. In a 2021 JD Sports interview, AJ said he and Chunkz first met while working at a cinema, and he credited Chunkz with getting him into YouTube. From there, AJ developed both an individual creator identity and a long-running role within Beta Squad that eventually extended into formal business involvement.

AJ Shabeel Already Had an Audience Before Beta Squad
Studio71’s announcement of Beta Squad on February 22, 2019 provides an important reference point in AJ’s career. At that stage, he was already being presented as an individual challenge creator with approximately 119,000 subscribers.
That means Beta Squad was not the starting point of his online presence. He entered the project with an existing channel and audience, alongside other creators developing their own work.
Studio71’s original plan allowed members to keep operating their individual channels while producing collaborative content. For AJ, the group became an expansion of an existing creator career rather than a replacement.
Meeting Chunkz Helped Lead Him Toward YouTube
AJ has given a first-hand account of how his connection with Chunkz developed before their later work together. Speaking to Chuckie Online for JD Sports in December 2021, he said they first met while working at a cinema.
He recalled Chunkz being particularly welcoming when he joined the workplace, helping him learn the job and making an effort to speak with him. AJ contrasted that openness with his own tendency at the time to be quieter and more reserved when first meeting people.
Their friendship eventually extended beyond the cinema. In the same interview, AJ directly credited Chunkz with getting him into YouTube.
That account provides a clearer explanation of his early creator path than the simplified idea that he entered online content through Beta Squad. The connection existed before the group and became part of the foundation for AJ’s move to YouTube.
Beta Squad Turned Individual Creators Into a Collaborative Group
Studio71 formally announced Beta Squad in February 2019 as a project involving AJ, Chunkz, Niko Omilana, King Kenny, and Sharky.
The concept centered on the five creators living together in a London property and producing collaborative content while continuing to develop their own channels. The project was scheduled to begin in March 2019 after months of development.
Studio71 described the initiative as its largest creator investment to date. For AJ, it created a structure in which his individual work could operate alongside a much larger group format.
This distinction remained important as Beta Squad developed. AJ was not simply appearing in another creator’s content; he was one of the five members around whom the project was originally organized.
His Beta Squad Role Became a Formal Business Connection
AJ’s connection to Beta Squad later extended beyond collaborative videos.
Companies House records list Ayaanle Shabeel, the formal name used in the company register, as a director of Beta Squad Limited from May 16, 2019. He was also appointed a director of Beta Squad Holdings Limited on December 11, 2023.
Those records give the group a business dimension that is not always obvious from its public-facing content. AJ’s involvement became part of the formal company structure associated with Beta Squad as well as its creator lineup.
Companies House also records completion of his identity-verification requirements in October 2025. By September 2026, his professional representative still identified him as a Beta Squad member.
AJ Has Continued Building an Individual Creator Profile
AJ’s professional identity has remained separate enough to be represented independently from the group.
Upload Talent Agency currently represents him as a creator and describes his individual output as including comedic challenges, pranks, and viral content formats. The agency reports a combined social audience of more than 5.6 million, although that figure covers multiple platforms rather than a single channel.
His agency profile also identifies professional work involving Meta and a long-term commercial relationship with JD Sports.
These current details connect back to the structure Studio71 outlined in 2019: participation in Beta Squad did not require AJ to abandon his own creator presence. His individual work and group involvement have continued alongside one another.
Trust and Collaboration Became Central to His Group Career
AJ’s own comments suggest that the relationships behind Beta Squad became important beyond the practical benefits of collaboration.
In his 2021 JD Sports interview, he spoke about the trust he had developed with the other members. The discussion also returned to his long-standing friendship with Chunkz, which began when they worked at the same cinema, before their later YouTube careers and Beta Squad collaboration.
By 2024, Beta Squad was also working with other major creator groups. In a GRM Daily interview that November, AJ singled out the collaboration with AMP as particularly significant.
In 2021, remarks attributed to AJ suggested uncertainty about Beta Squad returning and referred to tensions within the group. Later company records, professional representation, collaborations, and public appearances document continued Beta Squad activity, meaning those earlier comments describe that period rather than the group’s later status.
Major Creator Events Extended His Public Work Beyond Regular Videos
Some of AJ’s most visible recent appearances have come through large creator-led charity events.
On June 2, 2024, he took part in the Beta Squad vs AMP charity football match at Selhurst Park. JD Sports said ticket proceeds supported The Water Project, linking the campaign to safe-water work in Kenya.
His involvement in major creator football events continued in 2026. AJ was officially listed with Team Chunkz for Match for Hope in Qatar on January 30, 2026, an event supporting Education Above All‘s work relating to children outside formal education.
He also appeared for Sidemen FC at Wembley on April 18, 2026. Reporting from The Standard recorded him scoring in the 54th minute during a match that finished 10–10 in regulation time before being decided by penalties.
These appearances are part of his broader creator work, including large-scale events involving creator communities beyond Beta Squad.
AJ Shabeel’s Career Shows He Was More Than a Beta Squad Addition
AJ Shabeel’s documented career begins before Beta Squad. Studio71 already recorded him as an established individual creator when the group was announced in 2019, while AJ’s own later account traced his entry into YouTube back to his friendship with Chunkz.
Beta Squad then added another dimension to that career: shared content, long-term collaboration, and eventually formal company directorships. At the same time, AJ retained an individual creator profile, professional representation, commercial work, and his own audience.
His more recent participation in major creator events in 2024 and 2026 adds another stage to that chronology. The clearest picture is not of someone whose public identity began with Beta Squad, but of an existing creator whose independent work and group role developed alongside each other.
